Making your model

What's in the download?

Each design downloads as one ZIP. What's inside varies a little from design to design, and each product page lists it under What's inside. A typical download holds:

  • PDF: the printable template, one file per paper colour. The file name says the colour and the page count, for example Golden, 4 pages.
  • SVG: the same pieces for Cricut Design Space and Brother CanvasWorkspace, in two layouts. Grouped by page keeps the pieces arranged as they are on the A4 pages; individual pieces gives you every piece on its own, to arrange however you like.
  • DXF: for Silhouette Studio, with the cut, score and draw lines on separate colour-coded layers.
  • Instructions.pdf: the finished size, the paper you need, the steps for hand cutting and machine cutting, and a pictured assembly guide for every piece. Start here.

Not sure how to open the ZIP? See How do I open a ZIP file?

What paper and tools do I need?
  • Cardstock, 200 gsm or heavier, in A4 or US Letter. Thinner paper folds, but the model won't hold its shape as well.
  • A ruler and a scoring tool. An empty ballpoint pen or any blunt point works if you don't have one.
  • Scissors or a craft knife, or a cutting machine instead (see Which cutting machines work with the files?).
  • Craft glue, and a toothpick to spread a thin, even layer on each tab.

How many sheets you need, and in which colours, is on each product page under Materials you need, and on the first pages of the instructions.

How do I print the templates?
  1. Open a PDF from the PDF folder. There is one per paper colour.
  2. Load the colour of cardstock the file is named after. A coloured dot in the top-right corner of every page shows it too, so a black-and-white printer is all you need.
  3. Print at 100% (sometimes called actual size), not fit to page. Print every file at the same scale, or the pieces won't meet.
  4. If your cardstock is coloured or patterned on one side only, print on the plain side. The printed lines end up on the inside of the model.
Which cutting machines work with the files?

Each product page lists which of these files its download includes. Other machines work too, as long as their software can import SVG or DXF. The machine can draw the numbers with a pen, score the fold lines and cut the outlines, and you fold and glue by hand as normal. All the guides are collected at Cutting machine guides.

How do I read the fold lines and numbers?

Fold lines. Every line inside a piece is a fold. Score them all before you cut, then:

  • a line with a small circle in the middle is a mountain fold, an outward fold;
  • a plain line is a valley fold, an inward fold.

The instructions PDF has a picture of each, if you'd like to see one before you start.

Numbers. Each piece carries two kinds:

  • the big number is the piece's place in the assembly order: piece 1 first, then 2, and so on;
  • the small numbers sit on the edges. Glue each edge to the one with the same small number.

The assembly guide in the instructions PDF shows the model after every piece is added, so you can check your progress as you go.

Can I make a model bigger or smaller?

Yes. The finished size listed on each product page is the size when printed at 100%. To change it, scale every page or piece by the same percentage, in your printer settings or in your cutting machine's software. Pieces scaled by different amounts won't meet.

Going bigger means pieces spread over more sheets. The individual pieces SVG makes that easier, because you can lay the pieces out on whatever sheet size you have.

Can I use different colours?

Yes. The colours on each product page are the ones in the photos, and nothing about the template depends on them. A pink heart, a silver ring or a gold star all work.

The PDFs are split by colour, one file per colour, so if you swap a colour you swap a whole file. Print it on whichever cardstock you like.

Is there a video tutorial?

Some designs do. Where there is one, it is linked from the first pages of that design's instructions PDF, and the product page says so. You can browse them all on our YouTube channel.

Every design, video or not, comes with illustrated instructions that show the model after each piece is added.

Orders and downloads

How do I get to my downloads?

Right after you pay, you land on your purchases page, with a Download button for each design. We also email you a receipt.

To come back later:

  1. Go to My purchases.
  2. Enter the email address you used to buy.
  3. Open the link we email you. It shows every order you have made with us, newest first.

On the same device, My purchases opens your downloads straight away for 24 hours after you open a link. You do not need an account or a password. Your email is the key.

I never received my receipt

Your receipt usually arrives within a few minutes. If you cannot find it:

  1. Check your spam and promotions folders. Email from a new sender often lands there.
  2. Search your inbox for "Makeitpaper".
  3. Ask for a link at My purchases. Enter the email you used to buy, and we email you a link to your downloads. This works even if the receipt never arrived.

Still nothing? You may have typed a different email at checkout. See I typed the wrong email at checkout, or email support and we will find your order.

I typed the wrong email at checkout

Your email address is how you get to your downloads, so a typo matters. We can fix it.

If you have just paid and the page is still open, you can download your files from it right now.

Then email support from the address you meant to use. Tell us:

  • the email you typed by mistake, as well as you remember it;
  • the designs you bought, and roughly when and how much you paid.

We will check the payment and move the order to the right address.

Why did my payment fail?

When a payment fails, the reason is usually one of these:

  • Your bank blocked it. This is the most common reason. Some banks block online or foreign payments. Approving the payment in your banking app, or calling your bank, usually fixes it.
  • A card detail was wrong. Check the card number, expiry date, security code and postcode.
  • Not enough money, or a card limit. Some cards do not allow online or foreign-currency payments unless you turn them on.
  • The payment was not finished. If you closed the payment window before it was done, you come back to checkout with your cart as it was.

You are never charged for a failed payment. Once your bank approves it, trying again with the same card often works. You can also choose another payment method at checkout. If you see a pending amount on your statement, your bank removes it by itself within a few days.

Can I get a refund?

Every design is a digital file you can download straight after paying, so all sales are final. A downloaded file cannot be given back, so we cannot refund a change of mind, a purchase made by mistake or the wrong design.

If something is wrong on our side, email support and we fix it for free:

  • A file is wrong or damaged. We send you a working copy right away.
  • You cannot get to your downloads. See How do I get to my downloads?, or email us and we will get you back in.
  • You were charged twice, or something else went wrong with a payment. Email us from the address you used to buy, and we will look into it.

In other cases we still read every request fairly, but a refund is our choice.

The full details, including how to ask and what happens next, are in our refund policy.

How do I pay?

The payment methods you see depend on the currency you shop in:

  • US dollars: credit or debit card, or PayPal.
  • Indian rupees: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and others), card or wallet.

You can change the currency at the bottom of the shop and product pages.

When you press Pay, you finish on our payment provider’s secure page or payment window. Your card and bank details go straight to them, so we never see or store them. All we keep is your name, your email and your order, so we can send your files and help you if you need us.

Only you can open your downloads, through the link we email to you. Our privacy policy has the details.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts and no passwords here.

Checkout asks only for your name and email, and your email is all you need:

  • We email your receipt to it.
  • Whenever you want your downloads, My purchases emails you a link to all your orders.

That means one less password to remember, and checkout takes about a minute.

Do I get updates for free?

Yes. Every purchase includes downloads for life and free updates.

If we improve a design, for example by fixing a file or adding a new one, you do not pay again. Your purchases page always gives you the newest version of every file.

To get the newest version, just download the design again.

How do I open a ZIP file?

Each design downloads as a .zip file: a folder packed into one file. Unzip it first. Cricut Design Space and Silhouette Studio cannot open a file that is still inside the ZIP.

  • Windows: right-click the file, choose Extract All, then choose where to save it.
  • Mac: double-click the file. It opens into a folder next to it.
  • iPhone or iPad: tap the file in the Files app. It opens into a folder.
  • Android: open it with the Files app that came with your phone, or a free app such as ZArchiver.

Inside you will find the PDF patterns, usually SVG and DXF folders for cutting machines, and Instructions.pdf. Start with the instructions. See What's in the download? for what each file is for.

Do you ship anything?

No. Every design is a digital file you download.

There is no parcel, no courier and no shipping fee. We do not even ask for your address.

As soon as your payment goes through:

  1. you see your purchases page, with your files ready to download;
  2. we email a receipt to the address you used at checkout;
  3. you click Download, and the file saves to your device.

It works the same in every country, and there are no customs or import charges, because nothing crosses a border.

If you were waiting for a parcel, nothing has gone wrong. Your purchase is already online. See How do I get to my downloads? or our delivery policy.
